String columns cannot be used in the extraction of images, spectra/histograms,
and rate curves and, thus,
will not be shown with associated check buttons. To the right of
the pushable button with the name of the column
is an editable entry field in which the user can input arbitrary text.
Pushing on the column button will then append the sub-expression
colname==value
to the global expression in the top
expression entry field.
