2009-06-26 | FC3 | Intel | Fedora 11 | Everything went smoothly, you did a great job, really. There were numerous bugs in earlier versions of SAS (up to 5.x) but those have been mostly ironed out. |

2009-07-02 | SU8.2 | Intel | Ubuntu X | Arch Linux installation will only be a test. I will inform you to what extend it works.
I have been working with SAS using ubuntu 8.10 with no problems so far. That is, the problems that I faced were not operating machine specific and were solved during the SAS workshop 2009. The probelems were:
*libpng v 1.27 is too old
*xmgrace v 6 is too new
*gcc compiler v 4.2 is too new
good news!
*xspec, ftools and sas can be run in the same bash shell on ubuntu 8.10 |

2009-08-13 | FC3 | Intel | FC10 | There is no option for source above. |
2009-08-24 | MAC10.4 | MAC-Intel | MAC10.5.X | Mac OS X 10.5 is missing from the list of the second question: "which version do you intend to download" |
2009-10-14 | RHEL4 | Intel | CentOS 5.3 | The documentation for esas (that included with XMM-SAS) is poor, especially the "Parameters" section. For example, it refers to a "Task Merge_comp", which apparently refers to the "merge-comp-xmm" program, "Mosspectra" instead of "mos-spectra", "Rot_Det_Sky" (for "rot-det-sky") but "Rotimdetsky" for "rot-im-det-sky",
and so on. This lack of regularity in the naming conventions make it harder to look up things.
It would also be useful to have a brief summary of what changed between the standalone version and the version incorporated into XMM-SAS (e.g., the fact that emchain now has to be run separately, instead of being run by mos-filter).

2009-10-15 | SU8.2 | Intel | SuSE11 | This is my fourth download of SAS versions to my current PC, running Linux Suse 10.1
SAS 7.0, 7.1, and 8.0 did not give me any problem. I am very grateful for this! |
2009-10-22 | RH9 | Intel | RH9 | none |
2009-11-05 | SU8.2 | Intel | Ubuntu X | There is no info about which software version to choose for download for ubuntu users (red hat?, fedora?, suse?, other?). |
2009-11-10 | SU8.2 | Intel | Debian squeeze | Would be even nicer to support builds from source. This is done
for HEASOFT and most optical packages (e.g., MIDAS). |

2009-12-26 | MAC10.4 | MAC-Intel | MAC10.5.X | Over the years, I have found that you continually improve both SAS and the interface for downloading and installing it on the Macintosh computers I have been using. Thank you for all your efforts. |
