XMM-Newton Workshop "Ultra-Luminous X-ray sources and Middle Weight Black Holes":
registration and abstract submission open

As announced in issue #95 of the XMM-Newton Newsletter, the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre is organising an astrophysical workshop from Monday the 24th to Wednesday the 26th of May 2010 at the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre in Madrid, Spain.

The aim of the workshop is to explore the physical nature of Ultra-Luminous X-ray sources (ULXs) and their connection to intermediate mass black holes (IMBHs). Theorists and observers from the cosmology, X-ray,stellar dynamics, and AGN communities are invited to explore topics of common interest, review new and recent results, and discuss the impact of upcoming observatories and space missions for black hole research.

Registration and abstract submission for this workshop is now open.

Deadline for abstract submission is Thursday, the 18th of March 2010.

More information is available at the workshop website at:

Conference announcement: IXO Science Meeting

The "IXO Science Meeting" will be held from the 27th to the 29th of April in Paris.

The International X-ray Observatory (IXO), a joint mission of ESA, NASA and JAXA, combines a large X-ray mirror with powerful new instrumentation that will explore the high energy Universe. The purpose of this workshop is to gather together members of the astronomical community with an interest in IXO, to discuss the science we expect to be enabled by the mission and identify new science goals and drivers. As well as summarising the current status of the project following the decadal survey in the US activies and the on-going studies in Europe, topics to be covered include:

Deadline for abstract submission is the 15th of March 2010.

More information is available at the IXO workshop website at:
