XMM-Newton AO-10 closure

The XMM-Newton tenth Announcement of Opportunity (AO-10) closed on the 8th of October 2010.

In total, 491 valid proposals were submitted, requesting 89450 ks of science time. This Announcement of Opportunity covers a period of one year, with 14500 ks of observing time available for distribution. The over-subscription factor is 6.2.

A total of 67 proposals for "Large Programs" were received. Triggered/ToO observations were requested in 33 proposals. For the joint programs, 23 proposals were submitted: 12 for the XMM-Newton Chandra program, and 11 for the XMM-Newton ESO (VLT and VLTI) program.

SOC received proposals from 373 different principal investigators from 24 countries, mostly ESA member states, the United States and Japan. The number of countries involved increases to 37 if co-investigators are taken into account as well. Considering principal investigators and co-investigators, about 1400 individual scientists were involved in the response to the tenth Announcement of Opportunity.

Yours sincerely,
