RGS Calibration Status Document updated

A new version (6.0) of the document describing the current status of RGS calibration is now available at:

This document includes information on the effect of contamination in the long-wavelength sensitivity of the detectors, on pile-up in RGS spectra, and on how to use, in simultaneous analysis of EPIC-pn and RGS spectra, the results of the detailed comparison between both instruments (the "RGS-pn rectification").

OM Calibration Status Document updated

A new issue (6.0) of the XMM-Newton Optical and UV Monitor Calibration Status document has been released.

Virtual Machines now available for SAS 11.0

Virtual machines (32-bit and 64-bit versions) for SAS 11.0 have been produced and are available at the usual site for SAS downloads:

     http://xmm.esac.esa.int/sas/current/download/

The virtual machines have been assembled on Linux Fedora 14 32-bit and 64-bit respectively, and are tested to work under Windows, Linux and MacOs.

Workshop "The Starburst-AGN Connection under the Multiwavelength Limelight": registration open

The European Space Agency (ESA) Space Science Faculty is pleased to announce the opening of the registration to the international workshop "Starburst-AGN connection under the multiwavelength limelight". The Workshop will be held at the ESA's European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC), Villanueva de la Canada (near Madrid, Spain) on 14-16 September 2011.

Deadline for registration and abstract submission is 17 April 2011.
