XMM-Newton AO-11 closure

The XMM-Newton eleventh Announcement of Opportunity (AO-11) closed on the 7th of October 2011.

In total, 501 valid proposals were submitted, requesting 87.5 Ms of science time. This Announcement of Opportunity covers a period of one year, with 14500 ks of observing time available for distribution, of which 1500 ks were already allocated in AO-10 for a very large program. The over-subscription factor is 6.7.

A total of 62 proposals for "Large Programs" were received. Triggered/ToO observations were requested in 37 proposals. For the joint programs, 38 proposals were submitted: 14 for the XMM-Newton Chandra program, 8 for the XMM-Newton ESO (VLT and VLTI) program, and 17 for the XMM-Newton HST program.

SOC received proposals from 378 different principal investigators from 27 countries, mostly ESA member states, the United States and Japan. The number of countries involved increases to 37 if co-investigators are taken into account as well. Considering principal investigators and co-investigators, about 1450 individual scientists were involved in the response to the eleventh Announcement of Opportunity.

Yours sincerely,
