Summary release note for ppsprod-16.34
======================================

Pipeline Version: 16.34_20170131_1230
Pipeline name: ppsprod
Release Date: 2017-01-31
SAS Manifest: xmmsas_20170125_1110

Summary
=======

This new version of the pipeline is based on SAS16.0 public release
and includes two important changes for legacy products:

-) Source detection algorithms are applied to slew data.

-) Observations of the solar system objects can be processed such that
 X-rays images and spectra are correctly referred to the moving
 target.

Changes have been introduced for the handling of background
extraction: The method established in the previous pipeline version to
define the background region for source products from pn data has now
been extended to MOS.

Note that this method is not applied to sources detected in CCD#1 of
MOS cameras operated in "Small Window" readout mode, because the area
exposed in that CCD is very small compared to the Point-Spread
Function (PSF). Instead, background is estimated
from an annulus centred on the source and extending inside the
peripheral CCDs.

Some new products are delivered to ease quick inspection of the data:

-) A single file per souce which includes the plots of the light
 curves in all EPIC and RGS exposures of the observation.

-) For every EPIC spectrum there is a new image file (PNG) which shows
 the source and background extraction regions.

-) Time binning for RGS light curves is now adjusted for the brightness of
 the source.

-) RGS spectral plots are produced without any binning in wavelength.

The version of SAS being used is a pipeline-specific manifest
xmmsas_20170125_1110. This is based on the public SAS release 16.0.0,
