ABSTRACT | |
We propose to invest 2.2Ms of XMM time to obtain the first X-ray characterization of a sample of 15 hyper-luminous quasars at z=2-4. The main goals are i) to detect the UFO features and derive the wind detection rate in a large sample at these luminosities/redshift; ii) to investigate their launching mechanism by exploring correlations between wind and accretion properties in a luminosity/accretion range unexplored so far; iii) to characterize through wind models the physical properties of the nuclear winds, derive their energetics and compare them with the large-scale outflows; iv) to explore the connection between the presence of nuclear winds and other X-ray properties. This program will provide the community with the legacy sample for the study of SMBH accretion and ejection beyond z=2. |
