Endpoints of Stellar Evolution

Stars end their nuclear-burning lifetimes as compact objects, either white dwarfs, neutron stars or back holes, depending upon their mass. For binary stars, this can be the start of a significant new evolutionary phase involving the transfer of both mass and angular momentum between the stellar components.
