Seyfert GalaxiesThese are AGN, where the host galaxy is still clearly visible beneath the dominating nuclear emission. They represent the closest and intrinsically faintest population of AGN. Their X-ray output is dominated by accretion. Depending on their optical properties, they are further classified into "type 1" (generally X-ray unobscured), and "type 2" (generally X-ray obscured) objects. They are believed to be the ultimate source of the X-ray Background. |
