About this Image

Emission detected in all three EPIC instruments (MOS1, MOS2 and pn) have been merged together. Red, green and blue show respectively (0.2-0.5) keV, (0.5-0.9) keV and (0.9-2.0) keV bands, while the hard (2-10) keV emission is shown superimposed as contours. Shown in detail to the lower left is a factor 2 zoom-in on the nuclear region. The ellipse indicates the optical extent of NGC 253.
